Last 21-22 May 2024, Smart2B was represented at the 1st CINEA Cross-Programme Buildings Clustering Meeting that was held in Brussels. Smart2B was selected with other 45 projects and was presented in front of an audience of about 50 people.

The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) is the successor organisation of the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA). Officially established on 15 February 2021, it has started its activities on 1 April 2021 in order to implement parts of certain EU programmes. CINEA’s mission is to support stakeholders in delivering the European Green Deal through high-quality programme management that helps to implement projects contributing to decarbonisation and sustainable growth.

The invited projects spanned from H2020, Horizon Europe and LIFE programmes:  the event was surely an opportunity to create a hub for networking and showcase the results achieved by the invited EU-funded projects and therefore define a common ground of knowledge upon which set up the agenda for future actions and initiatives to enable energy transition in the buildings sector.

From Smart2B side, Nuno Mateus from EDP NEW (project coordinator) took this opportunity to present project innovations (devices, platform, services and user-interaction through Smart2B’s web application) and contribute to the discussions on smart buildings, services and interoperability.

Additionally, some of the main findings and lessons learnt during our pilot phase were also presented, including:

• Building energy systems are not IOT enabled or “open”
• it is hard to engage building owners: they have a distrust in cloud solutions
• the user-in-the-loop service reveals big potential to reduce the intrusiveness
• the user centered design is a valuable “tool”

Smart2B is approaching the end: in fact, the project will end on 31 August 2024. The following months will be therefore important to finalize the activities of the different work packages and achieve the final technical results. These technical results will be translated in a business opportunity for the project and the partners involved, paving the way for the exploitation of the results beyond the end of the project.
